Sher's Gallery ~ About Me
"In art, the hand can never execute anything higher than the heart can imagine." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
I was under the age of 10 when the "passion for glass" hit me. My Aunt had a beautiful glass paperweight collection that I held with fascination to ponder the mysterious construction. I didn't fully appreciate the nuances of the glass globes yet, but grew to covet them for reasons unknown to me at the time. Out of that grew the love of the rainbow spectrum, glitter, shine, sparkle and overall bling in glass.
Growing up with creative people all around me exposed me to a million ways to spend time in the pursuit of the creative arts. College provided a road to a BA in Art and Graphic Design. It was all extraordinarily fun. My more routine self-supporting work behind a desk left me dreaming of projects with no time to pursue them.
I began attending the ARTS Obispo Open Studios tour in 2004 and every year my anticipation of the event increased. As my focus narrowed over the years to jewelry, fused and blown glass, and mosaic I was not content just to watch others have all that fun. My creative urges could not be contained and the lack of time became an unimportant obstacle.
Thanks to talented teaching artists on the Central Coast of California, I've been swept up in the camaraderie and exhilaration of sharing the passion, joy and pain of working with glass. Today, I don't know if it's the creative process or the end product that I love the most. And in no small way, coming together with my sister into this new creative world seems like full-circle synchronicity. We are two sisters who have a passion for glass. We hope you will also....so welcome to our world!
